The Painter

it seems that dean has inherited my passion for painting, but not walls, his is the real deal.  he has been painting with no prompting from us for months now.  we used to cover the table in paper, wash off all the supplies, and put everything away, but it got to be so frequent that we just started leaving it all out.  his little tray and brush are practically the centerpiece on our kitchen table now and we find ourselves eating many meals around it.  then last week his mind was blown when he discovered face painting at the zoo.  every day since then he has requested that i paint his face.  the good thing is he is also the boy that is naturally neat and likes to wear little clothing...

and zinka colored nosecoat - i love this stuff and will be ordering
more colors promptly!  it's sweat proof, but still washes off of
him and most other things easily.

Boho Pillow

loving this hmong pillow that's now at home in our bedroom.  it's made a beautiful addition to the space where it's also safe from little hands...

Thrifted

a recent extra lucky trip that included this pale pink flowy top and colorful woven belt...

the perfect top for hiding and healing a bad sunburn too.  a classic mom
move of worrying about everyone else and forgetting about yourself.

and one of my favorite little photo bombers popping in to say hello!

thrifted topshop top & woven belt / the bohemian bardot by samantha wills
distressed denim shorts from here that i have been living in and some vintage
sunglasses i scored from a dear friend with great taste!

Room of the Day

i grew up in a house of seven kids and half of our living space was a finished basement, so i've always had a soft spot for them.  this room is a perfect example of the potential they have, and since we can't see the whole room i'm not even sure it even is a basement.  either way, it's great inspiration for one and i happen to be a sucker for white molding and vintage sports memorabilia...

Scooter Style

the boys asked for skateboards for their birthdays coming up, so we started them on scooters recently for a little practice and are training them to wear a helmet.  this one by radio flyer has been perfect, the wide base makes it very stable and there's enough room for both feet to get that skateboard feel...

love & art tee [similar ones here] and cherokee gold shorts

we found dean like this the other day, apparently he is all about safety.

Workin' It

still finishing up lots of projects around the abode like the deck makeover i posted on a few weeks ago.  i've been a little sidelined by a herniated disc in my lower back, so i'm trying to enforce some lazy days for myself, but it's hard for me.  these two however, need little convincing...

and dean loves my petty boots as much as i still do

Pink Pocket

i've been going bold with pops of color around our home, and what better place to add some than a pocket door.  it literally pops out as you open it and no one has a hard time finding our bathroom anymore...

i originally tried a couple different shades of lemon yellow, but it just didn't work.
the pink turned out perfect and to keep it from looking too girly i made sure the art behind
it had a masculine feel: grassland by alicia bock, wooden arrow a gift, and the mounted butterflies
i found at an antique store years ago.  the owner collected, identified, and framed them all himself.
dean loves to count them every time before we walk out.  the arrow serves as a reminder, i seem
to be surrounded by boys who are very good about washing their hands, but not drying them.

My Captains

the boys love pretty much any superhero these days, and this is by far one of the cutest tees i've seen...

and honey bear from my husband's childhood, it's so sweet the way they adore him as much as he did.
